Milan Target Manchester United Defender Nemanja Vidic

According to IlCalciomercato.it, Milan are keeping tabs on Manchester United central defender Nemanja Vidic.

The 27-year-old Serbian international has been plying his trade in the Premier League since 2006, when he joined the European and World champions from Russia club Spartak Moscow.

However, it is highly unlikely that Sir Alex Ferguson will agree to part company with the defensive ace for anything less than €20 million.

Despite signing Brazilian defenders Thiago Silva and Felipe Mattioni, Milan are still in the process of reinvigorating their ageing rearguard.

Captain Paolo Maldini will quit football at the end of the season and Alessandro Nesta’s career is in jeopardy. The former Lazio man is still dealing with his persistent back problems and will undergo surgery today, having suffering a relapse of his injury last Wednesday.

The 32-year-old will be ruled out for the remainder of the current campaign, but the delicate procedure could force him to hang up his boots altogether.

Oh on the Fox Soccer Report they talked a bit about the Chelsea vs Seattle Sounders friendly in July OMG I wanna go so bad

it's official

Chelsea will face Seattle Sounders Football Club on Saturday 18 July as part of the squad's pre-season training this summer.

The game will be televised live on ESPN2 and is part of the Sounders' 18-game Major League Soccer season, which begins on 19 March when they face New York Red Bulls.

Chief executive Peter Kenyon said: 'We are delighted to be opening our pre-season preparations in Seattle. It is a fantastic city and we have great memories of our time there in the summer of 2004 which went on to be a great season for us.

'The Sounders will provide us with a real test and we are happy that a sporting city like Seattle now has its own new soccer franchise as it is important for the development of the game in the United States. We will be bringing a full strength squad so it should be a great game.'

The match will take place at Qwest Field stadium, which will be expanded to include the upper bowl for the fixture as tickets are expected to sell-out.

'This will be unlike any international game ever played in the Pacific Northwest,' said Sounders FC majority owner Joe Roth: 'Chelsea is one of the top clubs in the world, and they are playing the home team, our Sounders FC, backed by our loyal supporters. The atmosphere that afternoon will be incredible.'

This will be the Blues' second trip to Seattle since the turn of the century, following our trip to the American city during 2004, when we completed a 4-2 victory over Scottish side Celtic.

Before 2000, Chelsea fist toured Seattle in 1967, when we defeated a local amateur side 5-0 at the Memorial Stadium. Then, 10 years later in 1977, the Blues lost to the original North American Soccer League Sounders at the Kingdome, the final score in that friendly was 2-0.

Rafa Benitez is refusing to rule Steven Gerrard out of this weekend's clash with Manchester City.
The skipper was expected to be missing for three weeks after tearing a hamstring against Everton on February 4 - meaning he wouldn't be in contention until next Wednesday's trip to Real Madrid.

However, Benitez today revealed that his number eight was responding well to treatment and could play some part against Mark Hughes' side on Sunday.

The boss told us: "He is improving. In these situations each day is important. He is working with the medical staff and is progressing.

"Normally he is a player who recovers quickly. He needs less time than other players.

"I was surprised because the Spanish press said he'd play some minutes this weekend and then play against Real Madrid, but the truth is we don't know yet.

"Maybe he could be on the bench against City but we don't know.

"He wants to play every single game. He knows the game against City will be very important, and also the Real Madrid one too."

Socceroos plan bushfire charity dinner

cahill kisses his black armband after scoring

The Socceroos are planning to host a charity dinner to raise money for the victims of the Victorian bushfires.

Midfielder Tim Cahill says the team wants to host the dinner in Australia in April when the Socceroos play their next World Cup qualifier match against Uzbekistan.

Cahill, who dedicated a goal he scored for English Premier League club Everton last weekend to those killed in the bushfires, said the disaster had touched every one of his Socceroos teammates.

"But we're pulling together on every single front," he told The Sun newspaper in Britain on Tuesday.

"I watch the news every day but it's something that is not going to sink in for a lot of people.

"We will do what we can and raise funds to help families rebuild their houses, and for kids to have the grass in their back gardens grown again so they can play.

"I've got kids and the bushfires are something that touches my heart. I'm very emotional about them.

"We've already done a bit with the Australia national team and now were working on some things to help out when were back in April for the World Cup qualifier."

The Socceroos wore black armbands during their 0-0 World Cup qualifier match against Japan last week as a tribute to those who died in the bushfires.

They have also signed a Socceroos shirt for a charity auction.

Liverpool ask for Champions League date to be rescheduled.

Liverpool make Uefa request to change date due to Hillsborough Disaster Memorial

Uefa will try to facilitate Liverpool's request of not playing a potential Champions League quarter-final on the 20th anniversary of the Hillsborough Stadium disaster.

Should Rafa Benitez's side progress at the expense of Real Madrid at the competition's last 16 stage, the second leg of the next round potentially falls on Wednesday 15th April.

The club are planning to hold a memorial service on that night for the 96 Liverpool fans who died after being crushed during an FA Cup semi-final in Sheffield in 1989.

Liverpool have made a request to European football's governing body to ensure any game involving the club would be played a day earlier on the Tuesday night.

"We have asked not to play on that date and that 14th April should be considered instead," a Liverpool spokesman told the club's official website.

"Uefa has replied acknowledging the significance of the date and confirming they will do their best to support our request if we progress."

It seems to me that this is a really important topic for Liverpool, and I hope they respect the wishes of the club and agree to the move if the Reds make it through...

Mark your calendars!

Agger set for Milan Deal?

Report: Liverpool Defender Daniel Agger Edging Closer To Milan

Reports emanating from Italy suggest that the Rossoneri have beaten Inter and Juve to the signature of the Danish international, who has reportedly undergone a medical.

According to Turin-based daily Tuttosport, Milan are very close to getting their hands on Liverpool central defender Daniel Agger.
It is suggested that the 24-year-old has already undergone a medical with the Diavoli, who are now confident of adding him to their ranks next term.

Agger, whose deal with the Reds is set to expire in 2010, has been on the fringes of the Premier League giants’ squad this season and had voiced his disappointment at the situation over the last few weeks.

Inter and Juventus were also said to be keen on his services but Tuttosport alleges that the clandestine medical with Milan took place either on Sunday or Monday.

The Rossoneri could now have an all-new defensive line-up next season with Agger partnering Brazilian stopper Thiago Silva, who signed from Fluminense last month.

Currently sitting two points behind leaders Manchester United, who play their game in hand against Fulham at Old Trafford this evening, the Reds now stand five points clear of Chelsea and 10 ahead of Arsenal, with Aston Villa their nearest rivals in third place.

But Carragher insists that despite being in a much better position than this time last term, they have no intention of resting on their laurels and will keep striving to regain pole position in the title race.

"There are still a lot of games to go, so it's important everyone at the club remains calm," says Carragher.

"A lot of people said at the start of the season that we needed to be in the title race at the end and at least be in with a fighting chance.

"We finished fourth last season, but we have overtaken Chelsea and Arsenal and even though everyone at the club understands that it's not over yet by a long way, at the moment it looks like it is going to be us and Manchester United for the title.

"Just by overtaking Chelsea and Arsenal in the challenge is an achievement in itself already so everyone should be proud of that.

"Now hopefully we can go one step further and win this title."

But while Carragher accepts that the away clash with Alex Ferguson's men on March 14 could prove to be a turning point in the title race, he also believes the return to form of 'the league's best striker' Fernando Torres will help the Reds’ cause no end in the coming weeks.

"United have got a bit of a lead on us at the moment but if we can close that gap before we go to Old Trafford next month, that would put us in a great position - especially if we are in form at the time of that game." says Carragher.

"Fernando has been scoring goals recently, but if we can get him back firing like he did at the end of last season it’s going to be a massive boost for us.

"Fernando is the best striker in the Premier League, if not the world, so to be where we are already after playing so much of the season without him is a great credit to the lads, staff and management.

"It would be interesting to see how other teams would cope without having such an important player on the sidelines for so long."

eto'o leaving barça for.. manchester city? yeah, right

Barcelona are bracing themselves for a £20million summer bid from Manchester City for Samuel Eto'o after the striker indicated this will be his last season at the Nou Camp.

Liverpool, Chelsea and Arsenal are also all keen on La Liga's top scorer, who has snubbed Barca's offer to begin contract talks. In the summer, he will have just one year left to run on his current deal.

It's just a matter of time before Ronaldo joins us, claim Real Madrid

Real Madrid remain confident that they can prise Cristiano Ronaldo away from Manchester United this summer.

Ronaldo came close to a move to the Spanish capital last summer before deciding to stay at Old Trafford.

Real are refusing to give up on their quest to sign the star in a transfer that would smash the £48million world record fee they paid for Zinedine Zidane.

Interim president Vicente Boluda reckons they will eventually lure Ronaldo to Spain.

Robben on a revenge mission against Liverpool

Arjen Robben has some old scores to settle when Real Madrid meet Liverpool in the first knockout round of the Champions League, which returns next week.

The former Chelsea winger will come up against a side he has twice lost to in the semi-finals of the competition, with Liverpool goalkeeper Pepe Reina saved his penalty in a shootout two years ago.

The Dutch international is eager to get revenge for the heartache suffered in 2005 and 2007, starting with the first leg in the Bernabeu on February 25 before Real make the trip to Anfield 13 days later.
