'We're so excited', says WAG Claudine Keane as she reveals she and Robbie are expecting first child
Premier League striker Robbie Keane, who has just returned to London to captain his former team of six years, Tottenham Hotspur, just six months after his £20 million transfer to Liverpool has even more exciting news.
Robbie’s model wife Claudine has revealed the couple are expecting their first baby in early summer.
'We’re so excited, we talk about it every day', said former model and Miss Ireland contestant Claudine, 25.
The overjoyed WAG - who has a double first degree in economics and finance from University College, Dublin - added: 'I’m so excited! It’s just nice to come out now and finally say, ‘Yes, I’m pregnant!'.
The couple have been together seven years and married in a lavish summer wedding last year in Dublin.
Claudine was 17 and still at school when she met Robbie through mutual friends. 'I’m from the north of Dublin and Robbie’s from the south, so without the introduction we wouldn’t have met,' she told Hello magazine.
'He was funny and everyone who knows Rob thinks he’s very charming. We had a friendship that was just incredibly natural.'
The couple tied the knot after six years of dating, exchanging vows in Ballybrack Church before enjoying reception at the Ritz Carlton at Powerscourt.
And despite intense speculation in their home country Claudine kept her pregnancy secret until telling family and friends.
She said: 'Being pregnant is part of my private life and we wanted to keep it to family and friends until it reached a certain point.”
'I don’t have much experience with little ones, so it’s going to be interesting. I think motherhood comes naturally, though, and I’ve always been a maternal person.
'I said to Rob the other day that there’s never been a baby so wanted. We’ve been talking about this for the past three and a half years.
'We’re counting down the days until the birth.'
Their relationship stood the test of long-distance, as Claudine, who describes herself as “fiercely independent”, was determined to finish her degree while Robbie made his name both in England and as captain of the national Irish squad.
Most recently, she has been travelling between Ireland and Britain, working as a photographic model and launching her career as a TV presenter.
Speaking about Robbie’s recent return to Tottenham Hotspur, she said: 'That’s the reality of football. It’s not like any other career – you have to be prepared to move around.
'Anyone who has been dating or married a football player will tell you that it goes with the territory: you’re always ready for the next step.'
'I only want the best for Rob because he’s not only my husband, but my best friend, too.
'I’m also going back to the home I haven’t enjoyed for months. London life is a great life, so I can’t complain. I’m a lucky girl!'

GERRO KOP OF THE CLASS
ABOVE: Steven Gerrard
10th February 2009 By Tom Savage
FOOTBALL idol Steven Gerrard has unveiled a secret love – of classic novels.
The England star likes nothing more than settling down with a weighty book after a day on the pitch.
And he has read his favourite – John Steinbeck’s Of Mice And Men – so many times it has fallen to pieces.
Stevie G also says the novel is the reason he scraped a C in his GCSE English.
The 28-year-old Liverpool hero said: “Obviously football is my main passion, but I love reading. My favourite book is definitely Of Mice And Men.
“It is quite a sad story. I’ve read it so many times the book has almost fell apart. In school we watched the story on video, did a project on it and an exam on it.
“I got a C in my English GCSE because of that book.”
And Kop ace Gerrard also fancies himself as something of a creative writer.
He added: “English was definitely my favourite subject in school because I enjoyed creative writing.
“I wrote a great story in school about how one day I would win the World Cup.
“I liked messing about with words – it was good fun.”
Gerrard’s comments come after we revealed fellow Scouser Wayne Rooney, 23, is hooked on JK Rowling’s Harry Potter books.
I had to read Of Mice and Men in middle school, and I hated it. If I ever meet him I'd tell him to read East of Eden. That book changed my life, lol.
Also, LOL forever at Stevie the Creative Writer! I bet he writes fanfic. ;)

Polish-born Germany striker Lukas Podolski is thoroughly unsettled at current club Bayern Munich, and has now secured a move back to his first Bundesliga club FC Köln, to begin in July.
Poldi is one of the most popular players in Deustchland, and the transfer fee is expected to be in the region of €10m. In order to bring their star player home, Cologne have enlisted the help of their fans, particularly those who own businesses.
At the club’s Poldi-Pixel site, fans may purchase an 8×8 pixel square for €25, which they can use to advertise a company and display wishes of goodwill towards the striker.
To cover the entire fee, FC Köln will have to sell 400,000 pixels.

bundesliga top/flop of the week:
Flop: Luca Toni
He took six shots, most of which were set up with five-star service, but was off-target every time. What’s the difference between Toni and David Villa? When Toni is unable to hit the target, he’s useless. Toni was so out of form on Saturday that even Miro Klose, the Mother Teresa of strikers, took the ball off his feet in the 66th minute to prevent yet another wasted opportunity.

TORRES: I DON'T WANT TO PLAY ANYWHERE ELSE
Fernando Torres has again pledged his long-term future to Liverpool following reports that Barcelona are weighing up a summer bid for his services.
Speaking ahead of Spain's friendly with England on Wednesday night, the Liverpool striker insists he is happy at Anfield and isn't considering a move away.
"I don't see myself playing for Real Madrid, or Barcelona or Chelsea or any other team," he said.
"I see myself playing for Liverpool. I have a long contract and that's that."
After netting late winners in each of Liverpool's last two league games against Chelsea and Portsmouth, El Nino is hopeful his injury problems are now a thing of the past.
"This year what I am more worried about are injuries," he added. "I have had many problems since last summer but I hope I will be okay now until the end of the season."
And Torres is keeping his fingers crossed that Reds skipper Steven Gerrard can make a speedy return to first team action after a hamstring problem.
"Hopefully Steven will be okay too," he said. "He's a special player and a vital part of our team and we need him fit again soon.
"I don't know how long it will take for his leg to heal, but we wish him the best and hope we can have him back as quick as possible.
"If it is in time for the Champions League game with Real Madrid even better."
Stay forever Nando
