In Case You Were Wondering

Who is the most intelligent Chelsea player?

Lampsie got him some brains, according to IQ Test

If Harry Redknapp ever finds himself in the Who Wants to be a Millionaire? hotseat, he should probably list his nephew as his “Phone a friend”.

Chelsea’s resident quack Dr Bryan English has been carrying out IQ tests on the squad, in order to provide a reference if any players suffer a serious head trauma (like Mr Cech). Apparently, the highest scorer in the test was Frank Lampard, who even drank the doctor’s cerebral milkshake:

“John Terry was in the top three,” says Dr English.

“But Frank Lampard scored one of the highest set of marks ever recorded by the company doing the tests, and higher than me.”

The doc did not reveal who scored the lowest on the intelligence test, but after cheating on his stupendously good looking wife with the mayoress of Uglyville, we’d be inclined to put Ashley Cole in the dunce hat.

Doesn't Fronk have an A level in Latin? If so this doesn't really surprise me. I know from personal experience that Latin is one of the most tedious languages to study

Cudicini Possibly Leaving Chelsea. Players at loss w/o Man Crush. Send help/Iker.

Chelsea goalkeeper Carlo Cudicini trained as normal with the Blues today amid speculation he is the subject of a £1million bid from London rivals Tottenham.

Spurs are understood to see the Italian keeper as the solution to a weak area of their squad. However, they are struggling to agree a deal with Chelsea before the end of the transfer window.

Spurs manager Harry Redknapp has been desperately searching for another keeper to provide competition for Heurelho Gomes.

Cudicini represents an ideal opportunity as the Chelsea stopper is out of contract in the summer and has spent the last five years as a back-up to first-choice Petr Cech at Stamford Bridge.

Cudicini has started only 25 league games since Cech joined from Rennes in 2004 and is unlikely to be offered a new deal by Chelsea.

AIG ends Man Utd sponsorship deal

The troubled US insurer AIG will not be renewing its shirt sponsorship deal with Manchester United that expires in May 2010.

AIG agreed to pay £14m-a-year for four years for the shirt sponsorship and also has a longer £5m-a-year deal to run MU Finance. It is currently restructuring itself, having received a $150bn (£109bn) bail-out from the

US government. It is not clear whether the MU Finance deal will continue. AIG signed a six-and-a-half year deal at the beginning of 2008 to offer insurance, credit cards and mortgages using the MU Finance brand.

Manchester United said that it had already started talking to a select group of potential sponsors. Its spokesman added that it was normal to begin the process this early because technical issues surrounding the manufacturing of shirts meant that it has to know who will be its shirt sponsor for the 2010/2011 season by the autumn.

Last week in Macau, Manchester United chief executive David Gill said he would not be surprised if the AIG shirt sponsorship deal was not renewed.
AIG has already ended its sponsorship deal with the US Davis Cup tennis team.

Agger worry for Reds

Alonso shakes off foot problem

Liverpool defender Daniel Agger is a major doubt for this weekend's FA Cup clash with Everton.

Agger missed Monday's 1-1 draw between the two Merseyside rivals with a calf problem.

The Dane is yet to recover from the injury and now faces a race against time to prove his fitness for Sunday's showdown at Anfield.

Reds boss Rafa Benitez admits he is waiting to see if Agger will be available to him for the fourth-round FA Cup tie.

"He was injured," Benitez told the club's official website. "He couldn't train normally.

"He is progressing now by working with the physios. He'll still need one or two days, so we'll see.

"It depends more on the physios than on me - we just have to wait."

Better news on the injury front is that Xabi Alonso is set to be fit despite suffering a recurrence of his foot injury on Monday.

"Xabi had a problem on Monday but he was training again today so I don't think he'll have any trouble for the weekend," added Benitez.
