Messi available to face France

FC Barcelona striker Lionel Messi will join the Argentinian national side for a friendly with France in February.

Messi normally only plays in Argentina's competitive games, as was agreed between the country's FA and the Catalan giants. However, with World Cup qualifiers ahead in March, the forward wants to use this friendly as preparation.


Pavlyuchenko stuck in bed with mystery virus

Tottenham striker Roman Pavlyuchenko has revealed he's been laid low by a mystery virus.

The 27-year-old, who has scored three goals since joining Spurs for £14m last summer from Spartak Moscow, and was forced to miss Spurs' 2-0 defeat at West Brom at the Hawthorns yesterday.

He told Sovetski Sport: "On the eve of the game against West Brom, I suddenly developed very high fever.

"It's some kind of a virus. I had to miss the game. I am staying in bed at home taking medications to recover from this illness as soon as possible."

Liverpool Football Club today pledged its full support to skipper Steven Gerrard following the events of the past 48 hours.
A statement from the club said: "Steven has been an outstanding servant to Liverpool for the last 10 years and the club will give him all the support he needs at this time."

The club has stood by our captain and every single Liverpool fan should.
