Fußballnationalmannschaft minus the "man" or maybe the "shaft"

 </lj-embed>
I stumbled on this documentary on the German Women's National Football team. It follows them along their 2007 World Cup journey. It's like 90 min but if you have the time I would say watch it, it's very good.  It's in ten parts, in german but has english subtitles. The ladies won the WC in 2007 and 2003. The have 3 olympic bronze medals, and have also won 6 of the 9 Euro Champions. Their U20 and U17 teams both came in 3rd place in their respective World Cups this past year. The 2011 will be held in Germany. I hope so of these ladies come play in the US in the Women's Professional Soccer league!

Bayern Munich fans boycott Keanu Reeves movie over stadium blast scene

Melbourne, December 17 : Supporters of German sports club Bayern Munich are boycotting Keanu Reeves' 'The Day The Earth Stood Still' after seeing their stadium being blasted by aliens in the new science fiction thriller.

The trailer of the movie had raged soccer fans after it was aired on the club's giant TV screens, depicting the Allianz Arena stadium being blown to bits by aliens.

The club's media director Markus Hoerwick said that they had no idea about the scene until it was screened in the match-day trailer.

"We were not informed and were also not asked for permission," the Daily Telegraph quoted Hoerwick as saying.

"It is not to our benefit for the Arena to be represented in such a way. We will now examine whether and how we react to it," Hoerwick added.

Bayern Munich, is best known for its professional football team, is the most successful club in German football, having won 21 German titles and 14 cups.

it's gonna be super mario vs. zombie arshavin!!! I AM WORRIED FOR MY STUTTGART BOYZ!

yeah, i put up a photo of stuttgart just because

Italian giants AC Milan will face Bundesliga side Werder Bremen in the last 32 of the UEFA Cup as they continue in their quest to win the only major European trophy that has so far eluded them.

Milan have been European champions seven times and have won two Cup Winners' Cups and five Super Cups -- and the UEFA Cup is the only major continental title they have yet to claim.

The draw in Nyon also saw defending champions Zenit St Petersburg face another German side in the shape of Stuttgart.

Meanwhile, the three English sides remaining enjoyed contrasting fortunes with Manchester City handed a tie against Danish side FC Copenhagen.

However, Aston Villa and Tottenham have both been handed tricky eastern European opponents with Villa facing CSKA Moscow -- the only team to win all their four qualification matches -- while Spurs take on Shakhtar Donetsk.

A win for both of those two Premier League sides will see them face each other for a place in the quarterfinals.

The winners of each qualifying group face teams who finished third, while the second-placed sides take on those club that drop down from the Champions League.

UEFA Cup last 32 draw:

Paris Saint-Germain (Fr) v Wolfsburg (Ger)
FC Copenhagen (Den) v Manchester City (Eng)

NEC Nijmegen (Net) v Hamburg (Ger)
Sampdoria (It) v Metalist Kharkiv (Ukr)

Braga (Por) v Standard Liege (Bel)
Aston Villa (Eng) v CSKA Moscow (Rus)

Lech Poznan (Pol) v Udinese (It)
Olympiakos (Gre) v Saint-Etienne (Fr)

Fiorentina (It) v Ajax (Net)
Aalborg (Den) v Deportivo La Coruna (Sp)

Six reasons why Arsenal will go clear in the Big Four league

The Spoiler

Arsenal/Liverpool, 4pm Sunday, Sky Spts 1, Best Odds, Free Bets

They might be nowhere near the top of the table that matters - the Premier League table - but Arsenal lead Liverpool on goals scored in the Big Four head-to-head standings after both beat Manchester United and Chelsea. Our friends at chickendinner are convinced Arsene Wenger’s side will again ruin a rival’s title prospects and have produced six reasons why this will happen:

1. Liverpool have won just one of their last four Premier League games and that was against struggling Blackburn, They have also been beaten on their last two trips to North London by Tottenham.

2. The league leaders have won just three of their last thirteen away games in the capital.

3. Whereas opponents from the North West have been the thorn in Arsenal’s side in recent years, the Gunners have won five of their six league games against teams from that region this season, including all three at home.

4. Rafael Benitez has never been victorious at the Emirates and his Premier League record away to Arsenal reads: P4 W0 D1 L3. The draw came when both sides had little to play for and fielded weakened teams last season.

5. The last season Arsenal looked out of the title race at this stage of the season was two years ago and on that occasion they won the Big Four league. They did the double over Manchester United, took points from both meetings against Chelsea and comfortably beat Liverpool 3-0 at home.

6. As Sir Alex Ferguson has pointed out, the last time Manchester United went away mid-season for the equivalent of the Club World Cup, the team above them failed to take advantage. On that occasion it was Leeds who led but they squandered their chance to extend the gap at the top by losing 2-1 at home to a Villa side that were in the bottom-half. Will history repeat itself?

Hey girl, I got somethin' real important to give you
So just sit down and listen
Girl you know we've been together such a long, long time (such a long time)
And now I'm ready to lay it on the line
(Wooow) You know it's Christmas and my heart is open wide (open wide)
Gonna give you something so you know what's on my mind (what is on my mind)
A gift real special, so take off the top
Take a look inside -- it's my dick in a box (it's in a box)
Not gonna get you a diamond ring
That sort of gift don't mean anything
Not gonna get you a fancy car
Girl ya gotta know you're my shining star
Not gonna get you a house in the hills
A girl like you needs somethin' real
Wanna get you somethin' from the heart
Somethin' special girl
It's my dick in a box, my dick in a box girl
It's my dick in a box, my dick in a box girl
See I'm wise enough to know when a gift needs givin' (girl)
And I got just the one, somethin' to show ya that you are second to none
To all the fellas out there with ladies to impress
It's easy to do just follow these steps
1: Cut a hole in a box
2: Put your junk in that box
3: Make her open the box
And that's the way you do it
It's my dick in a box...my dick in a box girl
It's my dick in a box, my dick in a box girl
Christmas; dick in a box
Hanukkah; dick in a box
Kwanzaa; a dick in a box
Every single holiday a dick in a box
Over at your parent's house a dick in a box
Mid day at the grocery store a dick in a box
Backstage at the CMA's a dick in a box (yeah-wow-wow-wow-wow-wow)
A dick in a box, a dick in a box, a dick in a box...

ALSO, ballack wrote a new footbo blog (thanks faith for reminding me!!):

Christmas Period and Beyond - Footbo

It’s been a few difficult weeks for us and it won’t get much easier over Christmas. That’s always a very busy and important period in England, with many games in quick succession. It’s fair to say that we’ve had a tough times in recent matches but I think that’s normal: every team finds itself in rough patches in the course of a longs season. Things don’t always work as planned and you can’t win every game 4-0 or 5-0. What we’re lacking a bit at the moment is the ability to totally dominate matches, especially against opposition who sit very deep. That’s why we find it easier away from home, where there is more space for us. It’s also really important to have Didier Drogba back. He’s such an asset, especially in very tight games.

It will be very important to put together some very good results before we go to Manchester United in January. I’m confident we can do that. We’re still scoring important goals and fighting very well. It’s important to react positively and I think we have the quality and character to do that. We’re still scoring important goals and fighting very well. And we will get better, there’s no doubt about that.

Wishing everyone a happy holiday period.

Salvados: Barça-Madrid

Remember that program they did for the Euros? Salvados por la Eurocopa- the one with the bit where El Follonero (Jordi Evole) asks Xavi to bring him a hotel towel and some bottled water?. Well, they made something similar for El Clásico and here it is. I've summarized a bit of what goes on in the segments but if there's a part that needs a translation I hope others who are much better at it than I could help out a bit? :)

The first three parts focus on the game itself. The fourth part focuses on the Premios Protagonistas where Leo Messi won an award. Fifth part doesn't really have much to do with the game. The Sixth part has interviews with Carles Rexach and Jorge Valdano.

Part 1: They discuss a plan to send a couple to Camp Nou, with a woman wearing a fake pregnant belly, in order to ask the players for a match-worn shirt and if they do, they'll name their "son" after him.
