this won't be confusing at all!

Portsmouth last night agreed to sell midfielder Lassana Diarra to Real Madrid in an astonishing club record £20million deal.

Real pounced for the France international as new Bernabeu boss Juande Ramos got his man two weeks before the transfer window officially opens.

Manchester City believed they had a deal in place, but Pompey made no firm commitment.

And although City came back yesterday with an improved £12m bid, the package on offer from Real was simply too good for Portsmouth or the player to turn down.

With the deal between the clubs now done in principle, only the fine details remain - something expected to be completed in a few hours today.

Diarra, who left Arsenal for Pompey in January for just £4m, will earn a whopping £110,000 per week, more than double his Fratton Park wages.

He was last night packing his bags to fly straight out to Spain within the next 48 hours, even though he cannot legally join Real until January 1.

But the 23-year-old has played his last game for Pompey and will train with the Spanish giants for the next fortnight to acclimatise himself to his new surroundings in La Liga.

Fat Sam has Blackburn

Sky Sports News understands that Blackburn Rovers are set to appoint Sam Allardyce as their new manager.

Allardyce is reported to have been in discussions with the Ewood Park outfit since late on Tuesday night and he is now set to succeed Paul Ince.

The former Bolton and Newcastle boss has made no secret of his desire to return to management since leaving St James' Park in January.

Allardyce, 54, along with ex-England boss Steve McClaren, was a contender for the Ewood Park hot-seat in the summer, but Ince - who was sacked on Tuesday - was the preferred candidate.

However, Allardyce now looks set to be named Rovers' new chief and it appears he will be appointed in time for Saturday's home meeting with Stoke City. wonder he got the job-he was up against Schteve Steve McClaren!

EDIT: oops, wrong club-It's Blackburn he's going to, not Sunderland!

Liverpool boys make do their annual Christmas visit to Alder Hey!

Image and video hosting by TinyPic

Liverpool's first-team squad took time out of their preparations for Sunday’s clash with Arsenal to bring some festive cheer to the wards at Alder Hey Children's Hospital today.

For one extra special afternoon Rafa's stars were only too happy to play the role of Santa as they delivered presents, posed for pictures and signed autographs for kids who, sadly, face the prospect of spending the Christmas period in hospital.

After being split into groups and loaded up with goody bags, the players made their way around a series of wards. All the children were thrilled to come face to face with their Liverpool heroes and have a one-off chance to talk football with their favourite stars.

[torsten. in ENGLISH.]

taversham posted scans of Torsten's interview in Champions - The offical UEFA Champions League mag. Since TORSTEN IN ENGLISH is sort of a rarity, I thought I'd sound the alarm over here.

I would be happy if Chelsea - in particular Michael Ballack - could go all the way.

The Story That Will Just Not Die

Manchester Utd agree to sell Cristiano Ronaldo to Real Madrid in the summer
The Spoiler

Spanish press believe Ronny will finally get his wish

Cristiano Ronaldo

Fiercely loyal winger Cristiano Ronaldo would never dream of hinting that he dislikes Manchester and that he would entertain the prospect of a move to Real Madrid, but according to Madrid-based paper El Mundo, this will be his last season in a red shirt:

Manchester United and Real Madrid reportedly have a gentleman’s agreement to transfer Cristiano Ronaldo to the Bernabeu.

The two team’s agreed in principle to the deal at the end of a bitter tug-of-war for the Portugal star in the summer - but pledged a vow of silence, according to reports in Spain.

The information comes from Real Madrid director Pedro Trapote, who is said to be very close to president Ramon Calderon.

And respected Madrid-based newspaper El Mundo reports that at least two other senior members of the Bernabeu hierarchy are leaking similar information.

The Spanish press don’t have a great record of accurately predicting future transfers, but this seems like a strong possibility, provided that Fergie can stop slagging off the Spanish club for five minutes.
