The Spanish Football Federation (RFEF) has asked the state prosecutor to investigate an alleged match-fixing claim from the end of last season in the second division.

The game in question is Malaga's 2-1 home victory over Tenerife on June 15, which ensured the Andalucian side's promotion to the Primera Liga. Tenerife finished mid-table.

Daily El Mundo has released a recording of a conversation between Real Sociedad president Inaki Badiola and former Tenerife player Jesuli, where Jesuli purportedly said he received money as part of a plan to throw the game.

"Having heard through the media of events which could affect the purity of the competition, and taking into account that it could constitute criminal activity, the disciplinary committee have agreed to hand over the details to the office of the state prosecutor," the RFEF said in a statement.

Real Sociedad finished fourth in the second division last season.

Malaga and Tenerife's players have denied any wrongdoing, and Jesuli has threatened legal action against Badiola for recording the conversation.

Thierry Henry in £8m divorce settlement

Barcelona striker Thierry Henry has paid his ex-wife a divorce settlement of eight million pounds, a report said on Friday.

Citing unnamed friends of Henry's former spouse, The Sun said the sum was close to the 10 million pounds British model Claire Merry had been seeking following their divorce in September 2007.

"It was settled at the end of last week," Merry's friend was quoted as saying. "Claire is delighted."

"Neither she or Thierry, who is French, wanted to go back to court as they are both now moving on with their lives. She is happy with the conclusion. She said it is close to the 10 million pounds she wanted."

Henry and Merry divorced in September 2007, with her citing the former Arsenal star's "unreasonable behaviour".

The couple, who were married for four years after meeting during work on a television commercial, have a three-year-old daughter called Tea.

Ronaldo was ''within an inch'' of joining Arsenal

Cristiano Ronaldo has revealed he almost joined Arsenal instead of Manchester United.

The Ballon d'Or winner was within 'touching distance' of signing for the Gunners after having promising talks with Arsene Wenger in 2003.

But United then bid £12.25million for the Sporting Lisbon winger — three times the Gunners offer — and Ronaldo moved to Old Trafford.

Valencia have agreed to release goalkeeper Timo Hildebrand from his contract
, the Primera Liga club said on Thursday.

The Germany international, who missed out on the squad for Euro 2008, arrived on a free transfer from VfB Stuttgart in July 2007 and was seen as the long-term replacement for Santiago Canizares.

But the 29-year-old dropped out of contention under new coach Unai Emery, who has favoured new Brazilian arrival Renan as his first choice this season.

Hildebrand had a contract with Valencia until 2010.
