Puyol, Xavi and Messi receive FIFPro prizes
FC Barcelona stars Carles Puyol, Xavi Hernández and Lionel Messi were all presented with their rewards for being named included in the FIFPro Ideal XI for 2008 in the press room at Camp Nou.
The prizes were handed out by the agency that represents players all over the world and it is those players that vote for their favourites over the past 12 months, with the winners making up a select side of the best performers.
Puyol and Messi again
Last year Puyol and Messi were included as well and were presented with mementoes to cherish, while a year early there was only one winner as Ronaldinho scooped all the FIFPro awards for his outstanding displays throughout 2006.
In the ideal XI along with the Barça trio are Iker Casillas, Sergio Ramos (Real Madrid), Rio Ferdinand, Cristiano Ronaldo (Manchester United), John Terry (Chelsea), Steven Gerrard, Fernando Torres (Liverpool) and Kaká (AC Milan).
Out of that impressive line-up, Ronaldo was the player that received the most votes and he was also named as the FIFPro Player of the Year.
The most players
FC Barcelona is the club with the most players in the Ideal XI with three, while Real Madrid, Manchester United and Liverpool all had two representatives each, while Chelsea and AC Milan had one apiece.

Messi A Doubt For Getafe Clash
Barcelona star Lionel Messi is a doubt for the clash with Getafe this Sunday after he finished morning training with an inconvenience in his right leg...
Getafe might have in-fighting to contend with before the clash with Barcelona this Sunday, but their opponents have a worry too, the fitness of Lionel Messi.
The Argentine, who has been sublime the last few games for Barça, finished training today with a niggle in his right leg and he is now a serious doubt for the match at the Camp Nou.
After evaluation of the injury any muscular problem has been ruled out but he will still have to wait and see how it evolves before any decision is made.
Messi has started nine matches for Barcelona in La Liga this season, scoring seven goals and grabbing six assists in the process.
Barça will definitely be without Andrés Iniesta who is a long-term injury and is unlikely to return before Christmas.
William Gallas has been stripped of the Arsenal captaincy and will not play against Manchester City, according to Sky Sports News sources.
A number of former players have been quick to criticise Gallas for the outburst and it now appears as though Arsene Wenger has acted quickly to discipline the Frenchman.
It is understood that Gallas, who was handed the armband at the start of last season, will not travel with the rest of the squad ahead of Saturday's game at Man City.
The latest development raises doubts about Gallas' future with the club, just two years after he joined the Gunners from Chelsea.
Reports suggest that goalkeeper Manuel Almunia will lead out the side.
I AGREE WITH THIS DECISION.

Gerrard wants to end career at Anfield
Gerrard made the announcement as he approaches the 10-year anniversary of his Liverpool debut next week.
"I have two-and-a-half years left on my contract and hopefully I will sign another one and stay for the remainder of my career," he said.
Gerrard's comments come on the same day as manager Rafael Benitez tipped the 28 year-old as the man who could one day replace him as manager.
Gerrard is back in light training and battling to be fit for Wednesday's Champions League home match with Marseille but his clear indication he never wants to leave Anfield will delight the club's fans.
He added: "We will have to wait and see about management but I certainly want to get my qualifications to enable me to coach and manage. Then I will have to decide what I want to do.
"Whether I will be interested in the Gary Ablett (reserve coach) type role, the Sammy Lee (assistant manager) role or the Rafa Benitez role, I do not know.
"I just want to get all my badges and then we will see. But I have a lot more football to play before we get to that stage and that is what I want to focus on at the moment.
"All I can say at this stage is the last 10 years have been the best of my life. I have lived the dream doing something I have always wanted to do and if my working life carries on being with Liverpool then I will be very happy."
