Ronaldo is worthy heir to Ballon d'Or, says Kaka

Cristiano Ronaldo deserves to succeed Kaka as the Ballon d'Or winner but he also warned the Manchester United winger that he is determined to help Brazil beat his Portugal team this month.

Ronaldo is strong favourite to take both the 2008 Ballon d'Or and FIFA World Player of the Year awards after inspiring Manchester United to the Champions League and Premier League double last season.

"The match is important for me because we'll play at a stadium that's a few paces from where I was born," the AC Milan playmaker told Saturday's La Gazzetta dello Sport referring to the friendly in Brasilia on Nov. 19.

"And I want to beat Cristiano, who will deservedly win the Ballon d'Or, and make all Brazilian people happy."

Kaka scooped the Ballon d'Or and FIFA World Player prizes last year after being the driving force behind Milan's successful campaign to win their seventh European champions title.

The 26-year-old added that he did not see himself as a coach when he retires and that Brazil's failure at the 2006 World Cup has taught him that talent only goes so far in football.

"I played in a Brazil side full of talent at the 2006 World Cup and I won nothing," he said.

"This means that team spirit and the capacity to make sacrifices are necessary elements (of success)."

hmm, yes he is. haters to the left, boy has got talent. ngl, brazil will probably beat portugal.

Ramos Owns Red Card Record

Sergio Ramos' continued expulsions have earned him the unwanted distinction of being the player with the most red cards per season in Real Madrid's history...

Sergio Ramos got sent off for the eighth time in his Real Madrid career on Saturday night against Malaga, an incident that is sure to ignite yet more debate about his future at the club.

Only Fernando Hierro got sent off more times during his career, but his ten red cards were spread out over fourteen seasons. Sergio Ramos is only halfway through his fourth season, and he is already just two short of that mark. At an average of two dismissals per season, Ramos' red card record is by far and away the worst in the history of Real Madrid. Hugo Sanchez, with seven red cards in seven seasons, is the only player with a vaguely similar record. Guti is far behind in third place, with his seven spread out over fourteen seasons.

With his future already under a cloud, this sending off has done nothing to improve Ramos's standing within the club. After all, the fact that the decision was contentious at best is unlikely to matter to the critics.

Goal.com just looking for (or making up) drama to report.

New York Red Bulls after Del Piero

Juventus captain Alessandro del Piero is being lined up for a move to New York Red Bulls.

MLS chiefs see Del Piero as the ideal name to energise the soccer market in New York and are monitoring his situation closely.

The Juve captain has made no secret of his desire to test himself abroad before he retires and his entourage have already had positive contact with FIFA officials about the strength of American soccer.

Del Piero has been in stunning form this season, which will only strengthen his marketing power in the 'States.
