LUIS FIGO: ENGLAND WON'T MAKE IT.
Lou- ‘Spain, Brazil and Argentina are the teams who have the experience at this level and perhaps there will be a surprise from Africa, because they’re competing at home,’ said the former World Player of the Year and captain of the Portugal team who knocked England out of the 2006 World Cup finals.
‘I don’t think the Spain team are missing much. There’s never a perfect team but they’re playing so well. England are not among the favourites as they weren’t at the Eeuros in 2008. would put them on the same level as Portugal.’
However, the coach of the South African team, Carlos Alberto Parreira, thinks otherwise. He believes that Capello's 'No-Wags-allowed' Policy is the reason why England have a much better shot.
"Capello has changed the philosophy," said Parreira. "England always had good players but now they have unity and focus. All this stuff about wives, girlfriends, partying – it's no good. When you go to a World Cup, it's like going to war. When you go to war, you don't take the wife. You go prepared to win a battle.
"There is more freedom these days with mobiles and things but you have to focus on your job. The performance of England in qualifying was excellent. There is a new mentality surrounding the team in terms of discipline and this will help a lot. I really think this could be England's best chance for a long time."
Do you think England have a shot?
MANCHESTER UNITED SPEND A WHOLE LOTTA MONEY
Fans deserve to know where Manchester United's fortune has been channelled and the club may finally be releasing this information- after 130 years of silence. 287 different companies were paid in excess of £93.85million by the club.
MAGICIANS were paid £50 000 and Superbfunctions, A clown supplier, was paid in excess of £1 million. Other companies include, Platinum One Limited, Trafford MBC, Harlem Springs Corporate Inc, Laing O'Rourke and HWBC Chartered Surveyors- who recieved roughly c6 million each.
Of all things, why clowns? Also, I think this is a perfect opportunity to use the clown gif. : ]
more on Utd's spending here-
BENITEZ: MASCHERANO MUST STAY.
Despite keen interest from football giants, FC Barcelona, Benitez is adamant that Javier will stay.
Benitez- “We spoke to Javier and his agent two weeks ago and told them our ideas and they told us their ideas. Javier is playing really well again. He has come back to his best and now we are happy for talks to progress.
“We have plenty of time to do the deal because he still has two more years left on his contract, but we are talking and I believe we will sit down again sooner rather than later to agree the future. The last conversations that we had were very positive. Talk about him leaving has all gone quiet so we are OK again.”
He also shed light on the situation with Fernando Torres.
“There is too much international football and something has to change. I’d start by playing international games on Tuesdays rather than Wednesdays to give players extra time to recover and maybe we can organise the calendar better.
“Fernando has a problem and we’ve had to analyse him and find a solution. I’d never ask him not to play for Spain unless he was injured. But the people in charge must also find a solution.”
Benitez then spoke about Pepe Reina.
-"We are very happy with him," said Benitez. "He has been improving every single year and he will improve more because goalkeepers have more time in their career. He's always positive and he's one of the best in the training sessions because his attitude is always good.
"It depends on the agent and what the player wants but Pepe is very happy here in Liverpool so I don't see a big problem. The team- mates love him because he's a very good example."
Do you think Mascherano will stay?
ROMAN ABRAMOVICH GETS ALL UP IN MAN CITY'S BIZNEZZ
Roman Abramovich will use all the power at his disposal to prevent Guus Hiddink from taking over the reigns at Manchester City.
For the time that Hiddink was in charge of the Russian National Team, Abramovich paid for his £5 million-a-year salary. The pair also have close ties from the time that Hiddink was in charge of Chelsea.
A source reveals- "Manchester City might want Guus if they sack Mark Hughes but there is no way Abramovich would allow him to be manager at City.
"When Peter Kenyon left Chelsea he was forbidden to take up a post at Manchester City. That was part of the settlement. The only job Guus is likely to take now is behind the scenes at either a club in Holland or at Chelsea."
(so, signing with Chelsea is like making a deal with the devil? okie dokie.)
BARCELONA AND REAL MADRID CONTINUE TO FIGHT IT OUT FOR A PIECE OF CESC.
The Influential Spanish newspaper, Marca, has claimed that Cesc Fabregas has made up his mind to leave Arsenal at the end of the season and this may spark a bidding war between the two most influential Spanish teams, Real Madrid and Barcelona.
Barcelona are a clear favourite and Marca claims that the club's vice president Sandro Rosell has already received a positive response after making discrete enquiries about the move.
Real madrid have been on the lookout for a midfielder and with Steven Gerrard considered too old, fabregas would be perfect.
(this always infuriates me but I feel like I have to share)
WRIGHT-PHILLIPS KEEPS IN TOUCH BY PLAYING XBOX
Shaun Wright-Phillips keeps in contact with his Chelsea buddies by playing a little Xbox.
Shauny boy- "I still speak to lots of Chelsea lads like John and Frank. I love Call of Duty on Xbox and I play them on it. It's quality. It's great banter and when I was at Chelsea there were lots of competitions between the players on the consoles.
"I'm really competitive and once I get into a game you can't get me away from the screen. I have friends at Chelsea but I'm a City player now and want to do well for them."
(I don't know if you guys find this interesting but I do probably because COD 4 is one of the best FPSes ever made and I may have the tiniest crush on captain Macmillan with the scottish accent.. ahhhh)
(i really tried to accomodate all your needs but tell me if i miss anything out, k?)
