• Bayern Munich player hampered by knee tendinitis
Franck Ribéry is likely to miss France's World Cup play-offs against Ireland next month.
The Bayern Munich winger, who has been hampered by left knee tendinitis this season, saw the specialist Jean-Henri Jaeger in Strasbourg yesterday and was told to rest his knee for four weeks.
France will face Ireland in a two-leg playoff on 14 and 18 November for a spot in next year's World Cup finals in South Africa.
Ribéry has already missed France's last two World Cup qualifiers against the Faroe Islands and Austria.
