Manchester Utd secure Shinji Kagawa

Japan international Shinji Kagawa will become Manchester United's first summer signing.

The Premier League club confirmed on Tuesday they have "reached agreement" with his club Borussia Dortmund.

"Manchester United is delighted to announce that it has agreed terms with both Borussia Dortmund and Shinji Kagawa for his transfer to the club," said a United statement.

"The deal is subject only to the player medical and obtaining a UK work permit. These conditions are anticipated to be completed by the end of June. The deal is expected to cost about STG12 million ($A19 million).

Manager Sir Alex Ferguson and assistant Mike Phelan personally checked on Kagawa the day before the Premier League runners-up's final match at Sunderland, when they saw the Japanese star grab one goal and create another in Dortmund's 5-2 German Cup triumph over Bayern Munich.

The 23-year-old attacking midfielder is currently on international duty and played in Japan's 3-0 World Cup qualifying round victory over Oman at the weekend.

Kagawa cost Dortmund just 350,000 euros (about $A450,000) when he joined from J-League side Cerezo Osaka in 2010. He has scored 21 goals in 49 Bundesliga appearances for Borussia, helping them win back-to-back league titles.

Defender Rio Ferdinand was quick to offer his best wishes on Twitter.

"Welcome to Shinji Kagawa for his transfer to Man Utd," he said. "Here's to a succesful (sic) time here bro!"

As a BVB fan, I'm gonna miss him so much ;~; I'm sure his boyfriends Kevin and Ilkay miss him too.

He'll do fine, I'm sure. I see him as a great asset for the team. And Dortmund will sure find a replacement they can get for that kind of money.

we'll have Reus under contract from July on ;D so we already have our replacement
still wanted Shinji to stay but it's better if he goes now and we get some good money instead of letting him go for free next year

Huh. Didn't see that one coming.

Oh - it's been brewing for months now. Not really a surprise. Newspapers in Germany were full of it.

Heh. Sorry, that was sarcasm mode on my end. <3

Now on the off chance that the whole Bayern wanting Benni thing is true and happens...

I am sooo buying an End of the World kit, not even gonna lie about it

No worries. I should have used caps or something posting frim a phone is pretty limiting.

Also I think I heard that rumor here? And was like pffffft

Yes Bayern has been trying to poach Benni. I'm not sure how good their chances are though; I expect him (wisely) to stay at Schalke.

Oh. That! But isn't the old news. I thought the whole thing was off the table now? Hm. And I agree, he'd be better off with Schalke.

It popped back up again fairly recently, but yeah, I doubt he's coming here anytime soon. idk, I wouldn't mind another CB, and I'd be cool with seeing him play for us, but we def don't need him for next season. Though if we ever might have a situation like with the CL final wrt CBs again -____-

Eh, not sure. I don't think he'll move, but United is looking like more of a lame duck as Chelsea and City spend and spend.

When I think of Japanese players, Inamoto, immediately comes to mind. What happened to him was terrible.

Good luck Kagawa!

I already miss him in Bundesliga since there are quite a number of Japanese players there. Is Ryo staying in Bolton or he's going back to Arsenal?

nansan_ogawa: Ikemen Birunansan_ogawa on June 7th, 2012 12:58 pm (UTC)
Bluesamurai at German is actually lots
And no need to sad, coz kagawa left, bundesliga already got the replacing from same club cezero osaka if you know Hiroshi Kiyotake (kagawa lover's lol) I bet he good as kagawa even more I think :p

Speaking bout Ryo, nobody knows, but as Arsenal &Ryo fans
All ppl and myself wants he back as regular player, but Bolton's coach wants he stayin.
Bad Bolton is no longer at EPL, I assumptions Ryo need/want another club if Weenger no need him nau (will be loan again) poor jpnese player at arsenal honestly (ーー;)
But at least Ryo still lucky than SK player hehe
