Mourinho on why khedira and ozil were benched (against Mallorca)

x-posted to [info]loewsmiserables

Why were Khedira and Özil benched (against Mallorca)? People were surprised with that decision because you specifically requested their signings…

Life for the two Germans is not an easy life. They don’t speak a single word of Spanish. They only say “buenos días” (“good morning”) and “hola” (“hello”). They don’t go further. The work we do in field is intense and luckily I have an assistant who speaks some German and gives them my instructions. But it’s not easy for them to get my message as I wanted. Besides, social life with the group is still zero for them. Khedira lives with Özil and Özil lives with Khedira. Their entry into the group is not easy yet, even though the group is young, friendly and easy to deal with. They don’t even speak English well. They speak it a little better than Spanish, but it’s so hard that way. Patience, we have to give them time.

At least they have each other and can study some Espanol together :)

"Khedira lives with Özil and Özil lives with Khedira"
***muahhh** that line needs a gif, icon, something!
IMO José is just trying to deflect from his real problems. These two not able to speak the language in THREE WEEKS is not the problem!!! And it's totally normal that you stick together when everything around you is strange. They will learn and they will find new friends. :D
Besides: is Real Madrid too poor to afford an interpreter for them??? Nicole Kidmann, please help!!

Maybe Khedira should hang out with Benzema then and get some advice. He is fluent in French at least, even though this seems to help minimally.

Why is everybody jumping on Mourinho like that? I mean, I get why he is the anti-christ for some and that's fine.

But come on, if you really read what he said he didn't say anything negative about them, he clearly states that they need more time and that everybody needs to be patient with them. Yes, he expected them to speak better english, hell, *I* expected them to speak some english. He simply tries to take away the pressure everyone put on them.

He is just being Mourinho, same old tricks, and hell they still work.

My all knowing Duplo sticker album claims they both finished secondary school (mittlere Reife), so it is just funny (albeit justified) that everyone who knows German and listened to Mesut speak it, expects so much more out of Khedira. *g*

Joachim Löw was asked about this in the press conference today and seemed really surprised. Apparently Özil and Khedira told him that they like it in Madrid and get along really well with the coach and the other players (I think he even that something about communication being great?). Meanwhile when asked the other way 'round....

WWJD

What Would Jose Do

i think mourinho is the best manager in football when it comes to managing the press, and telling them to lay off his players. he's a great guy because he lets the press focus on him, so they're not all focusing on his players

i think what he said about Ozil and Khedira is very true, german is completely different than spanish, in grammer, in sound, in everything. it's always tough for german players to go abroad, maybe this is one of the reasons why

i think it's very intelligent of jose to not have players out there playing who literally can't speak to their teammates. i mean, that would be a disaster, you have to talk to each other on the field, even just simple commands like 'left' 'right' 'push up' 'fall back' 'cover' 'watch #12'

if these guys can only say 'hola' than they absolutely shouldn't be in the squad. it would frustrate them, damage their confidence, and it would also frustrate their teammates

well done jose

I completely agree with you.

Once they integrate better and learn more of the language they will get their time on the pitch.

Of course it will take some time until they are fully integrated.
It would be quite helpful if they spoke English, though. At least they have a reason to study it properly, now.

It's good they have each other. Imagine Özil would be all alone there.

Just want to mention: I LOVE YOUR GIF

José is just referring to their "working" time together.

September 1 2010, 15:10:34 UTC 1 year ago

i also think that is a dumb reason to bench someone. don't buy players that don't speak your language if you are going ~punish them bc no hablen inglés o español.

[info]accioaiko

September 1 2010, 15:18:36 UTC 1 year ago

lol if teams couldn't buy players that didn't speak their language nobody would go anywhere.

He isn't punishing them at all just answering a question on their integration into the team.

But they are ambitious enough to know they need to learn Spanish or English. If not, they wouldn't be where they are.

[info]anais_molko

September 1 2010, 15:23:24 UTC 1 year ago

RM are known to having small groups within the team anyway

the dutchies used to hang on by themselves
sergio is always with the argies
marcelo rotates between pipa and sticking to pepe

and so on and so on

either way, well if they can't communicate with the others.... let them bench a bit until they pick up a couple of lines just so they'd be able to communicate with the others while playing and no mess around

btw i'm so judging them for not even speaking basic english well

[info]accioaiko

September 1 2010, 15:37:37 UTC 1 year ago

It is my thought that maybe Mourinho is trying to stop all the little groups and cliques from forming. I mean we can't play like a team if we aren't one whole unit in the first place. lol
